She has a ring on her finger, but over the years, the politician has been involved in other notable relationships, such as the one with former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and Montel Williams. The Brown and Harris relationship and breakup managed to be a source of controversy and criticism; career advantages were discussed here.

Kamala Harris has been married since 2014 to Douglas Emhoff. They met in 2013 and took the marriage step the following year.

Douglas Emoff is an entertainment attorney, and according to the firm where he is a partner, he is a strategic advisor and a seasoned litigator who has a reputation for resolving the most challenging issues. He has experience in both behind-the-scenes roles and high-stakes courtroom battles. With over 25 years in the field, navigating complex real estate, business, and intellectual property disputes, he established himself as a leading lawyer in California and beyond.

Doug is licensed to practice in Washington, DC, and he is actively involved in both Southern and Northern California while very committed to public service. Community and charitable activities are very common for him, including legal aid, human rights, child welfare, and social justice.

We can see some glimpses of their relationship on social media, where they share some cute posts from time to time.

They met in 2013 on a blind date organized by a friend of Harris who only asked her to trust her and not Google him, but she revealed the date was not that blind because she did Google him before the date. However, they liked each other, and Doug assured her that he didn’t want to play games. He expressed his intentions by showing her the schedule with the next dates he already prepared, saying he liked her and they should try to see if they could make it work.

In 2014, Doug proposes, in the middle of an unromantic conversation, as Kamala revealed.

They got married on August 22, and the ceremony was held by Kamala’s sister, Maya, in Santa Barbara, California. They managed to blend their families. They embrace their modern family, and the politician shared that Cole and Ella, Doug’s children from his first marriage, are calling her Momala, reflecting a distinguished relationship between her and the kids.

In 2016, Doug Emhoff was a huge supporter and joined her on the campaign trail to be the senator of California and, as we know, she ultimately won.

In 2017, he was the one holding the Bible at her swearing-in ceremony; he repeated the action in 2020 at Harris’s inauguration as the first female vice president. He continues to support Kamala, and they actually militate for the love they were lucky to have in their own lives, always being out supporting the Pride movement.

Do you remember their iconic moment of attending the Pride Parade in 2019, where Harris was wearing a rainbow-colored sequined jacket, dancing with the crowd, and sharing their famous kiss?

They passed beautiful public moments together, and Dough is Kamala Harris’s biggest fan, remembering the 2019 moment of the campaign trail in Iowa, where they shared a selfie with Emhoff shoving off his customizable phone case that was adorned by a drawing and the name of his wife. He was always there to support her and he is going to support he in whatever she decides.

In 2020, he declared, “I’m not her political adviser; I’m her husband. And so my role was to be there for her, to love her, to have her back, to talk it through, to help her.”

They made history when, in 2020, Harris became the first female vice president and Dough Emhoff would become the first second gentleman. Harris affirmed then that family means everything to her and that she can’t wait for America to get to know Doug. Kamala Harris marked a lot of firsts back then. She also became the first Black and South Asian woman to be chosen as a major party candidate’s running mate, as well as the first graduate of a historically Black university.

They talked publicly about the efforts and strong organizational skills they use in their relationship. Emhoff shared that it’s all about planning. “Typically, we get up early, we work out, and then we sit down and it’s like, ‘Let’s have a meeting and figure out how we’re going to get through these next couple of days.’ That includes getting dinner and figuring out our laundry and mail. All that stuff that doesn’t stop, and we still need to do it.”

Kamala described her husband as being patient and shared that he laughs easily. She claimed the beauty in their relationship is that in all the serious times they needed to pass, they didn’t take themselves too seriously. “You just have to flow and know what’s really important,”  she said.

Their relationship seems to be like the honeymoon phase forever, and it’s not only about what we can see on social media. Their friends and close people also admire their relationship, and Ella, opening up about their parents, joked, saying that “together they are like almost vomit-inducingly cute and coupley.”

Kamala Harris and Willie Brown met in 1994 when she was 29 and he was 60.

Back then, he was the Speaker of the State Assembly. Their relationship became notable during Brown’s 1995 mayoral campaign. People have alleged that Harris has some professional benefits from her relationship with Brown. He appointed her to the California Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board and the Medical Assistance Commission, and she got paid collectively over $400,000 over five years.

Their relationship ended shortly after his inauguration as mayor, and it was Harris who decided the separation. Harris struggled with criticism and an unwanted public perception related to this period of her life, especially during her campaign for District Attorney in 2003. Her opponents questioned the impact of her past and her ex-boyfriend, Willie Brown, on her career. This was the subject of public and political scrutiny, and Harris expressed frustration about addressing the relationship publicly. She asserted her independence and distance from Brown’s influence and referred to the relationship as an albatross around her neck.

Brown acknowledges the relationship and support of Harris’s career but also believes he has assisted many other politicians. He shared how Harris threatened him with an indictment if he broke the law while she was District Attorney.

Their relationship was in a moment of estranged marriage for Brown, who has distanced from his wife, Blanche, since 1981. Brown used to be involved with several other women.

In 2001, Kamala Harris dated the well-known television personality, Montel Williams.

Their relationship is only proven by a picture on the red card of them and Montel’s daughter, and the rest were mostly rumors.

During the 2020 campaign, Williams expressed his support for Harris on Twitter, and he also mentioned they dated 20 years ago, they were both single, and he doesn’t see what is wrong with that. He highlighted the fact that he’s wondering if the same stories would be written if she were a male candidate.

Montel’s tweets raised important concerns about whether the same scrutiny would be applied to a male candidate.
