Mirroring

Have you ever heard of mirroring? It’s when someone is subtly trying to copy your speech or your speech patterns, but also your nonverbal behavior. This is probably one of the most fascinating and efficient ways to test the waters when it comes to someone’s level of interest.

People will start mirroring your behaviors if they’re fascinated by you, and it all happens on a subconscious level, so they might not even be aware of it. Here are some of the verbal and nonverbal signs that might tell you if someone special is mirroring you:

  • If this person faces you with their entire body. If someone’s torso and toes are angled in your direction, this is commonly known as fronting.
  • If they mimic your seated posture.
  • If they copy your vocal volume and cadence.
  • If they start speaking like you
  • If their facial expression changes as yours do.
