What percentage of 60-year-olds are single?
According to the United States Census Bureau’s data, it seems that more people are staying alone as they age. In fact, 45% of Americans who are currently in their 50s and 60s are single nowadays, compared to only 28% in 1960.
The increased number of single people who are 50 years of age and older is mainly caused by a serious decline in marriage among working adults and a rising rate of divorce among Baby Boomers. Moreover, most people over 60 have lost their spouses, and they are still grieving.
As the Pew Research Center showed, four in ten adults aged 25 and 54 were neither married nor living with someone in 2019. Besides, their research proved that men are more likely to remain single compared to women.
