6. Don’t internalize hurtful comments
No. 6 on the list of ways to deal with a narcissistic partner is not letting their behavior affect you. Building thick skin is easier said than done. Some of us are naturally more sensitive than others, and it may be hard not to let hurtful comments and actions get to you.
It’s very important to internalize the fact that their behavior isn’t a reflection of you but rather a manifestation of a personality disorder.
Taking insults and criticism will quickly degrade your self-worth and confidence. That’s why growing thicker skin can help you maintain a realistic expectation of your relationship and a healthy sense of self.
This doesn’t mean overlooking unacceptable actions, though. Even if your partner has a mental health condition, they don’t have the right to persistently demean or mistreat you.
