4. Catch the Bouquet

This is definitely the most popular superstition we’ve come to associate with love and weddings. This tradition is still widely practiced and dates back to the 14th century. Single female wedding guests would literally tear apart parts of the bride’s bouquet and even her dress, hoping that some of her luck in love would rub off on them.

Fortunately, the tradition where the bride would just throw her bouquet to the guests saves her dress from being destroyed. It seemed like a much better idea, and brides all over the world couldn’t agree more as this became the bouquet toss that we know today.

It’s said that the woman who catches it will be the next bride. We can choose to believe or not in this superstition as it exists today, but we sure are happy brides don’t end their big day in a ripped dress anymore.
